Bro On Fraternity

A fraternity is defined as a group of people united in a relationship, having some common interests, activity, and purpose. It is a brotherhood, as the members usually say, of people at a college or university.

For members, fraternity means brotherhood, unity, friendship, trust and acceptance. It means meeting new people, sharing interests and accepting others' as well. It helps in building confidence and character because they believe that a fraternity gives a certain kind of protection. It gives the feeling of security and importance.

It is somewhat comparable to gangs as they are both organization of people. However, gangs usually lack purpose and acceptance to communities. Usually linked with violence because members tend to compete with each other. And that was the problem, because we do not know what fraternity truly means. It is really about violence?

Today, fraternity became a controversial issue because of deaths, hazing problems and other negative concerns. Now, with this interview I got catch on the view of a fraternity member and what does FRATERNITY really do.

Good Evening, this is a short interview for the blog “the Bronicles” on the topic Fraternity Today

Fil-maur :Ahm.magandang gabi.

Dwein: Magandang gabi din.

Fil-maur: Ahm. Anong frat ka kabilang?

Dwein: Tau Gamma Phi

Fil-maur: Ahh. Gaano katagal ka nang kasapi nito?

Dwein: Ah. Simula September 2007, siguro mga five years na.

Fil-maur: Anong dahilan ng pagsali mo?

Dwein: Sumali ako kasi na-curious ako at syempre dahil sa yaya sa akin ng mga kaibigan ko. Tsaka ginusto ko rin naman ‘to, kasi naisip ko may mga maitutulong ‘to sa akin.

Fil-maur: Ahm. Ano na yung mga nagawa mo simula nang naging kasapi ka ng frat?

Dwein: Marami na akong ngawa, may mga mabubuti, syempre meron ding mga masasa, mga hindi. Dahil sa pagsali ko dito minsan napapaaway. Ang maganda rito marami akong natutunan. Tulad ng ano...disiplina sa sarili. Marami din kaming ano, mga nagawang ano...makakatulong sa ibang tao, ganoon. Tulad ng ano, ahm, bloodletting, community service, tapos yung mga ano, pagpapakain sa mga street children, pagbibigay ng mga laruan sa kanila. Kasama ko yung mga brad ko, masaya naman kami kapag ginagawa namin yung mga ganoong bagay, nakakatulong kami sa ibang tao

Fil-maur: Ah. Sa paanong paraan sa tingin mo makatutulong ang isang kasapi ng frat sa ating lipunan?

Dwein: Ang frat hindi ano, hindi sya masama, sa ibang tao kasi naririnig sa kapag kasali ka sa frat tingin agad ng ibang tao, masma, basagulero. Pero hindi, hindi to ano, hindi naman yun lang yung ano e, yung pakay nito. Maraming mabubuting bagay na nanagawa dito kapag sumali ka, marami kaming natutulungan na ibang tao. Maraming ibang tao na natutuwa sa amin.

Fil-maur: Ah.ok.yun lang salamat

Dwein: Ok salamat din.
